TIN TYPE

This civil war era tin type is in very good condition and would be perfect for the young soldier who carries a photo of his mother into battle. The subjet is a mature lady approx. ? years of age. The dress and hair style are typical of 1855. But the revenue stamps on the back date this one as late war. Just goes to show the older a lady is the less likely she is to adopt the latest fashions. The dress is silk with attached lace trim, she is wearing lace mitts. The white collar has a brooch attached.
The backmark is; E.L. Willis Milford Ms.

1863 DATED BLACK THERMO CASE W AMBROTYPE

This Ambrotype of a young lady identified only as "A.C.F.", is seated and wearing a clearly defined crocheted snood with a large tassel off to one side. An indefinable cameo is affixed to the top of her dress at the neckline. The dark colored dress is ornamented with a black collar and matching cloth covered buttons both down the center as you would expect and for ornamentation on the sleeves near the shoulder seam. She wears a sash belt with a metal buckle which is undecernable.

It sits in a Littlefield, Parsons & Co. pat. 1856/57 black Thermoplastic case dated & initialed with pencil, by the owner, Feb. 28, 1863. It has a decorative brass retainer plate ornamented with flowers and stars. The plate itself measures 2 inches wide by 2 1/2 inches tall. The hinges are tight. It closes and fastens well. As you can see from the photos it has minor chips on the outer edge. There's nothing hidden. You see every good thing and bad that the case has to offer. I think it's priced very reasonably. The image itself is much better and sharper than my poor attempt at photography shows. I made no attempt to clean the glass, I seldom clean relics.

1850s 1/4 PLATE OF A YOUNG LADY

This Ambrotype of a young lady is actually a little better than my photo of it would suggest. These "things" are murder to photograph. I would date this one mid 1850s, possibly just a little later. It really is a good strong image. Only half a case though. If you find a front they are very cheap and it can easily be attached to this one using library tape. Her dress has a nice medium size pattern, lace gloves and collar. A large bow on the front of her belt and this is your lucky day boys, she's single - no ring! Looks like she's the girl you left behind.
