LEECH & RIGDON BELT ADJUSTMENT BUCKLE

The Leech & Rigdon saber belt adjuster will fit a belt 1 1/2 inches wide. It is just about as Confederate as you can get. Originally located in Memphis Tennessee, this enterprising firm moved with the Confederate lines and possibly supplied the CS government with military goods longer than any other private firm outside of the Augusta Georgia area, which was the last industrial stronghold of the South. L & R finally settled there as well.
This buckle is found on existing saber belts which have all L&R hardware as well as a L&R saber attached. However it is exactly the same buckle as used on some versions of the Enfiled musket sling. L&R did not manufacture everything they sold, in some cases they would buy from other manufactures to produce a finished product. Did they buy these buckles from a local manufacturer who had copied them from the Enfield sling? Did they buy them from a Blockade Runner? No one knows but all agree they are the same buckle. Quite a few of these buckles have been dug in the "Battle of Franklin" area with no other hardware in the immediate area of the buckle. Leading some to believe that by late war this buckle was also used as a waist belt buckle. This is just speculation as I can find no photographic evidence of this practice. Keep in mind late war photos of Confederates are very rare.

Long story short, It's a very versatile Confederate buckle with a great history.

BELT ADJUSTMENT BUCKLE

Our belt adjustment buckle as seen on the belt above was a common piece of hardware use before and during the war. It can been seen in photos even into the Indian war period with little change. Used on waist belts or saber belts, it is correct for either. It is often seen in photos of officers wearing the more expensive or ornate belts such as the folded and sewn belts.
This buckle can be used on a belt as narrow as 1 5/8 or as wide as 2 inches.

CONFEDERATE SADDLE SHIELD AND SADDLE OVAL

Our confederate saddle shield and oval are made by hand one at a time, just like the originals that they were copied from. Shown side by side in the photo, they are identical. If you do a serious Confederate Cavalry impression then this just one of those little things that put your impression a notch above the rest. Our originals were dug in a Confederate Calvary Camp in Laverne, TN, Just north of Murfreesboro. In all likelihood lost in one of Wheeler's or Forrest's raids around Rosecrans.
The photo speaks for itself, if you want the best, then you will want these.

LEECH & RIGDON SABER SNAPS

Have you ever seen these before? Not unless you own an original. They have never before been reproduced. The most famous Confederate manufacturer of hardware is without a doubt Leech & Rigdon. Better known as Memphis Novelty Works. The most prolific maker of brass goods, sabers, the best made Confederate made pistols and even drums for the duration of the war. The shifting lines caused them to relocate several times during the war but they still managed to keep the goods flowing.
At the onset of the War, Gen. Forrest was a Memphis City Councilman. And as you all know he outfitted his troops from his own pocket or from captured goods. Is there any doubt that he would have used Memphis Novelty Works Company for all they could have supplied? Dug goods from known Forrest camps and the photographic evidence proves without question that many of the Gen. Troopers were equipped with goods from Leech and Rigdon. Our original saber snap shown in the center was dug in the same Confederate Cavalry Camp as the CS shield and oval shown above.
The snaps are made of solid cast brass with a spring steel snap braided directly into the snap. The best design possible for long wear without breakage. The snap measures 2 3/4 inches long. It has a beautiful ornate design that is cast into the brass. The loop measures 1 inch wide so it will fit any standard saber belt. It works great as the end snap on your horse lead too.
