The Skirt is the most basic of garments so where better to start building your impression? We offer each of our skirts in 3 varying price ranges, each priced according to the degree of hand work, difficulty and time required to create each one, so there is sure to be a skirt to fit every need and budget. Our skirts are available in a variety of period correct colors, prints and woven designs. All are made of 100% cotton.

Skirts for Camp or Work
These skirts are not as full as the "fashionable" skirts of the 1860's. They are smaller in circumference , reminiscent of the fashions of the late 1840's. This allows you to "get around" a campfire or a loom/wash-kettle/stove, etc. a little easier and safer.
Be sure to read our article on fire safety.
They are not large enough for a hoop but can be worn with a petty coat or corded petty coat to give the wearer a fuller look around the bottom of the garment.

NO HOOPS IN THE MILL!
The photo to your immediate right shows how a skirt is Gathered into the waist band of our Work / Camp Skirt Type 3.

First lets talk about your basic camp skirt; For many women this is the first garment of their impression that they will purchase, it is great for the novice re-enacter who is just getting into the hobby, or for a "seasoned" re-enactor who just needs another skirt in case of foul weather at the event, a.k.a. MUD! You don't want your best to end up filthy and permanently stained but still you must be dressed in period attire. This little skirt is just the thing for those occasions.
We call this model our Camp Skirt Type III. It is made from 100% cotton material, calicos, solid colors and many woven patterns available. All period correct.

It is gathered, well gauged actually, (that's tiny little pleats) at the waist

TO GATHER OR TO PLAIT?
and machine sewn into the waist band that is 1 inch in width. The waist band closes using one of our re-production 1851 Goodyear's patent hard rubber buttons, (Available only at Blockade Runner). The button hole is machine sewn. The skirt is hemmed to length at the bottom.

Here is an example of our size chart for dresses.

A size 6 would have a 32 inch bust and a 26 inch waist.
A size 8 would have a 34 inch bust and a 27 inch waist.
A size 10 would have a 36 inch bust and a 28 inch waist.
A size 12 would have a 38 inch bust and a 30 inch waist.
A size 14 would have a 40 inch bust and a 32 inch waist.
A size 16 would have a 42 inch bust and a 34 inch waist.
A size 18 would have a 44 inch bust and a 36 inch waist.
A size 20 would have a 46 inch bust and a 38 inch waist.
A size 22 would have a 48 inch bust and a 40 inch waist.
A size 24 would have a 50 inch bust and a 42 inch waist.

CAMP / WORK SKIRT TYPE II
As shown in the photo to your right.
It has the same basic characteristics as the type III but it also includes;

The dress is plaited into the waist band, not gathered.
One pocket sewn into the skirt.

The button is cloth covered to match the skirt.

One pocket sewn into the skirt.
Hand sewn button hole.
Button is cloth covered to match the dress.
The skirt is Plaited, not gathered.
The skirt is lined on the bottom inside, 6 inches up, with cotton muslin.
The bottom of the skirt is "taped" with a period correct 100% cotton tape.

A Skirt for Day Wear
This skirt, though still very inexpensive can be properly used in many more settings than the camp skirt.
It is still suitable for work, although it for more genteel work. Supervising the daily household, mercantile, young ladies at there studies, etc.
And although modest, It is still appropriate for receiving unexpected visitors or calling on close friends. It is very full and flowing and to those "looking on" it gives you the illusion of gliding along as if skating on air.
Our skirts are available in a variety of colors, prints and period correct woven designs. All are made of 100% cotton.

As you can see in the photo right, Annette has taken her Day Skirt and with a white Garibaldi shirt, a Medici belt and a few accessories made a very fashionable outfit. And without a great expense!

Our Day Wear Skirt is 13.5 ft. in circumference or larger. It will accept any period correct hoop.
We offer our Skirt for Day Wear in 3 different types.

SKIRT FOR DAY WEAR TYPE III
