What a versatile little item! We will be happy to make this cape for you in several different styles. Lined, unlined, with or without a taped edge. Choose a neutral color and you can wear it with anything. If you have a "signature" color we can make your cape to compliment it.
Made from 85/15 American made wool. Always available in brown or black but you can choose your color, just give us a call. If you prefer a lined cape we use 100% cotton that has been pre-shrunk, again neutral colors are best for linings. If we are making your complete outfit we can tape the edge with the same material for a matching ensemble. Or choose from any solid color. It's not too heavy or cumbersome so it will not weight you down. However it is very warm when there is a chill in the air. The perfect garment for those cool fall evenings.

Haley, on the left, is wearing that simplest yet always elegant garment, the Hooded Cape. It is made of black coat weight wool. It has a single button closer at the neck. It comes with an oversized hood for that "Old Country" look straight from a Grimms Brothers fairy tale. It has arm holes in each side of the cape so when needed you can easily reach out with either hand do what has to be done while leaving the other arm nestled under your cape just as warm as can be. It is unlined as in most of the south the winter climate in never severe enough to make a lining necessary. But we are always happy to accommodate our Northern friends should a lining be desired.
I can think of no other garment that can provide you with that warm feeling of comfort as a cape does when the hood is draped low and the cape drawn close. It is as if you have pulled the comforter up on a warm feather bed.
There is something about a cape that makes a women just a little mysterious as well, don't you think?

Kristina, on the right in the photo above, is wearing a wool Peletot Coat of a dark grey and blue design , a very popular coat of the era. Pick up any of the winter months issues of Godey's, Peterson's or Graham's Lady's Magazine and you will find one or two designs of, if not this exact a very similar coat every time.
As a matter of fact there is a very nice litho of one in Peterson's Magazine, Sept. 1860 on page 330.
It buttons up the front by means of four decorative cloth closures that fastened with 1 inch Goodyear Patent, hard rubber buttons. It has pagoda style sleeves, always chic, and the length is just below the knees.
Our Peletot Coat is made from coat weight 100% wool and is unlined.

IRISH KINSDALE HOODED CAPE
The "Irish Kinsdale Hooded Cape" is another one of those wonderful garments that you look for any occasion to wear. It's like having an
alter-ego hanging in the closet. You can be anyone you wish, while wearing one of these capes. Including the real you! You know, the character you keep suppressed from family & friends. Just try one on and you'll see exactly what I mean.
There is quite a bit more work involved in the Kinsdale than in some of the other capes.
The hood is plaited and sewn into a back piece so as to allow an even fuller look than most.
The cape which closes by means of 3 hard rubber buttons, Goodyear 1851 patent, is sewn into a yoke which fits across the shoulders, this too allows us to plait in even more material for a very full look, the plaits sway as you walk like stalks of grain in a breeze. Very eye catching.
There is plenty of room underneath for smuggling contraband too. Should such a thing be necessary that is.
Of course we make them from the same exceptional quality wool that you have come to expect from Blockade Runner.
